Ibiza wine is getting more and more credit in international wine-tasting circles these days. Es Divi sa seleccio 2001 was the first to really put Ibiza on the viniculture map, and since then there has been no looking back. Es Divi was produced by Vins de Tanys Mediterranis, which is just one of four bodegas on Ibiza. The neighboring island of Formentera has a few good wines of its own. The business of wine growing is ever expanding on the island, and it has over 300 acres of land under cultivation producing nearly 10,000 gallons of wine every year.
There are a few different wine growing areas on Ibiza, but fifty percent of all production comes from the San Mateu valley. The names of the wineries on the island are: Vin de Tanys, Can Maymo, Can Rich and Sa Cova. All of them benefit from the fact that the local soil is rich in limestone, and that there is little rain, moderate winters, and a ton of sunshine. These conditions make the Monastrel, Garnacha and Malabeo grapes the most popular. Chardonay, Viognier and Muscatel are the most common white wines. Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon the most popular red.

Ibiza Vacation - When to Go
Ibiza has over 300 days of sunshine every year so there are plenty of days to choose from for your visit. Even in January there are four hours of sun a day so really it's fair to say that you can take your vacation to Ibiza at any time of the year. At least from a weather perspective. One thing to consider is that if you go during the peak season of June to September the price of flights and accommodation will be steeper than you would find for the rest of the year.
July and August can be very hot, so one tip to bear in mind if you go at this time of the year is that you should do most of your activities, such as shopping and sight seeing, in the morning before it gets too hot. There is a reason why the Spanish have a siesta!

Dalt Vila actually means high town, and if you are town at the level of the Ibiza port looking up you will understand why. Formentera Day Trip From Ibiza
Port de la Savina Formentera is the entry point to the island. Whether the boats are from Barcelona, Denia, Alicante, Palma, or Ibiza, they all dock at La Savina. It is a small port really, but it does have a pretty decent marina. If you arrive in the height of summer you will see an incredible array of fancy and expensive boats.
But you won't want to hang around La Savina if you are on a day trip from Ibiza. There is no time to waste so as soon as you get off the ferry go straight to the Tourist Information Office which you will see opposite you - it is a modern glass office inside the ferry terminal building. You'll pick up an map and be on your way.
Next stop is to rent a suitable mode of transport. My suggestion is that you rent a bicycle. It really is the best way to see the island. At most I would go for a moped, as a car is more of a hassle on some of Formentera's narrow and bumpy roads than anything else.
With a bike in hand you have a few different options to explore. One could be to head north to Es Trucadors where there are some quite magnificent white beaches. You see Formentera has a very narrow northern peninsula and you can actually enjoy a beach with the sea on both sides.
Another enjoyable cycle is around Estany Pudent, which is the largest of Formentera's two inland salt lagoons. It has rich wetlands, which are home to some great wildlife, including flamingos.

Ibiza Car Tour (Part One)
If you are visting Ibiza or Formentera then you may decide to go for a car tour. One great part of Ibiza to explore would be the hilly western part of the island, taking in: Ses Figueretes, Sant Josep, Sant Agusti, Sant Antoni, and Sant Rafel. An important tip that not many people know: the road to Sant Josep suddenly narrows after quite a few of the bends, so always approach the bends slowly. The locals know this, and you should too.
If you start the tour in Ibiza Town, then you need to take Avinguda Macabich on Exit A, and head west past the vacation homes of Ses Figueretes. You will reach a turn off to the airport and you should take the PM802 on your left towards Ses Salines. This will take you to the village of Sant Jordi de ses Salines (it's worth stopping to take a look in the church), and then nine kilometers on from that you will reach Sa Canal. This is the spot to stop and take in the island's best beach: Platja Mitjorn. It's even more beautiful than Mari Formentera. At the end of the beach's western end there is an excellent shaded area which is ideal for picnics - it's rarely crowded as most people don't walk down that far.
After that you should head back towards Ibiza Town, but this time turn towards the airport. You will go past the airport, and past the beach of Es Codolar. It's worth going from here to the fishing port of Sa Caleta as there is a nice sandy cove beneath its red cliffs. After than you will head back to Cala Jondal for a bite to eat: there are plenty of restaurants to choose from, many of which overlook the white sandy beach.

This article follows on from Ibiza Car Tour Part One, at the point that you are leaving Cala Jondal and taking the PM803 north to Cova Sanat, where you should stop and take a look at the stalactites. It is the biggest collection of stalactites on the island so you won't need to bother with any more after seeing these ones.
After that the best route to take is to drive on the main road to Sant Josep. Just southwest of the village is Ibiza's tallest mountain - Sa Talaiassa. At 1,600 feet this mountain makes a very impressive view and is a good photo opportunity so make sure to get to this point of the journey before dusk.
From Sant Josep you will go to Es Cubells, and this route is very picturesque. After driving through the olive trees you will take a small road left to find yourself at Vista Algere, which has amazing sea views. Once you get to Es Cubells you get views out to volta Formentera. Es Cubells has a designated panorama view which winds all the way to Cap Llentrisca.
You have to go back to Es Cubells and then as you near Sant Joseph take a left turn to Cala d'hort which looks out onto the mystical Es Vedra - is Atlantis really below it. I don't think so. It's an easy ride back to Ibiza Town from here, and you will take a costal road past Cala Moli to Cala Tarida, and on to Sant Agusti. Before getting home you might want to stop in Sant Antoni which is a hub of activity in the evenings.

Planning Stag and Hen Accommodation in Ibiza
Ibiza is a popular place for stag and hen weekends (or weeks!) and due to the size of groups involved (usually 8 plus) organising accommodation can be a challenge, especially in July and August. We spoke with Chad Harwood-Jones to get some tips on how to arrange your Ibiza Accommodation. Chad is a long time Ibiza goer who works in Ibiza to help with the increasing demands of group holidays to Ibiza.
"I came to Ibiza for my stag weekend a few years back and had the challenge of finding a villa for 20 people, near to Ibiza Town, for a long weekend, on a budget! Finding a villa for a long weekend let alone on a budget around Ibiza Town is a challenge to say the least. I started by looking on private villa rental websites although I was struggling with choice against my requirements. I found a site that not only gave me villa owner contact details but gave me much more in depth information about the island including beach guides. I contacted suitable villa owners however with it being the opening parties most were not willing to rent their villas for short periods of time. Eventually I found a villa owner who would, and the place was incredible! Located up in an exclusive Urbanisation called Can Furnet it had a pool and views over to Ibiza Town and the sea. I managed to book the villa for 5 nights for £20 / person / night. The day after we left they rented the villa for £10,000 / week for the rest of the summer."
Deciding on whether you want a hotel or self catering accommodation in Ibiza often depends on how long you want to stay as it is much easier to book a hotel for shorter stays. You can often get rooms and balconies next to each other so you can maintain the group feel. This is often why people want to rent an apartment or villa. Again staying in June or September are the cheapest summer months to stay in Ibiza so bear this in mind when deciding on budgets.
A key consideration when renting a holiday villa in Ibiza is the need for transport. You will either need to hire cars or arrange transfers as most villas are outside of towns and resorts. People don't often want to worry about driving, especially on a Stag or Hen party in Ibiza! However if you do have people in your group that are willing to drive it will be the cheaper option. Transfers can be expensive if you want to go to beaches and restaurants, back to the villa to get ready, then to and from a club. This is often why people opt for apartments if they are only staying for a short period. You will find plenty of companies offering transfers in Ibiza so look into this before deciding.
